Annapurna Trekking (Thorong La)

The trek starts in Dharapani (1960 m above sea level) and ends in Jomsom (2850 m above sea level). The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the most famous and popular trekking routes in Nepal. It takes you on a round trip around the Annapurna massif, starting in Dharapani and ending in Jomsom. This trekking route offers a diverse landscape, from lush green valleys to dry high mountain deserts. The trek begins in Dharapani, a village in the Manang district. From there, you follow the Marsyangdi River, passing through beautiful forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages. The path gradually ascends, offering breathtaking views of snowcapped peaks such as Annapurna II, III, and IV, Gangapurna, and Manaslu. As you continue trekking, you reach Manang, a picturesque village known for its Tibetan-Buddhist culture and stunning mountain landscapes. From Manang, the trail leads to the Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the trek at an altitude of 5416 meters. Crossing the pass is a challenging but rewarding experience, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges. After descending from the pass, the trail leads to the famous pilgrimage site of Muktinath, known for its sacred Hindu and Buddhist temples. From Muktinath, the trek goes through the Kali Gandaki Valley, known as the deepest gorge in the world, with the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks on both sides. The trek ends in Jomsom, a town in the Mustang district. From there, you can either fly back to Pokhara or continue trekking to Ghorepani and Poon Hill for more breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges. Along the way, you stay in teahouses that offer simple accommodations and meals. This trek provides a unique cultural experience as you walk through various villages where ethnic communities such as the Gurung, Thakali, and Tibetans live. You have an opportunity to learn about their traditions, visit monasteries, and interact with the locals.
